Do you like to have your home clean in every little corner ? I certainly do.
If you are like me, happy just when the house shines and smells clean you must have tried, like me, all kind of cleaning products from the newest one to the most expensive ones.
After trying different products and listening to different advises, I must confess that now I go back to the old traditional procedures, more efficient, less expensive and especially eco-friendly.
One of my first challenges was the washing machine – we do believe that if it cleans all our laundry, it is always clean. Not really.
So here are the results of efficient experiences I gladly share with you. I hope many of you will enjoy my simple tips.

If you have a toploading washing machine, here are my advices:

– you need white vinegar (it disinfects and cleans the washer), baking soda, a microfiber cloth and an old toothbrush.
Pour a quart of vinegar and a cup of baking soda in the machine. Set the machine on highest water temperature and the longest wash.
Close the lid and let the washer agitate for about 1-2 minutes. Stop it and open the lid again and alow the mixture to soak for 1 hour.
If there are removable parts like detergent, bleach and fabric softener welles, now it’s the moment to remove them. Soak them and clean nooks and crannies under the lid. Rinse and dry them thoroughly and replace.
With the toothbrush clean the hard-to-reach areas (under the lid, around the rim of the tub, the upper part of the agitator, etc …).
Do not close the lid yet !
After 1 hour the residue of detergent, softener and other soaked it is time to close the lid and let the cycle to complete.
In the meantime you can clean the front and the sides of the machine, the top, the dials and console with a white vinegar solution.
When the cycle is finished, repeat it. This time only with a quart of vinegar, to clean away the residue loosened by the first time. Once the second cycle ended, open the lid and whipe the sides and the bottom of the tub with the mixture of white vinegar with backing soda.
To prolong the cleanliness and clean smell of a fresh washing machine, leave the lid open between uses. Drying out thoroughly means prevent mildew.
You can also use white vinegar in the normal washing cycles by replacing the softener. I found out that it softens the laundry by softening the hard water – no, the laundry will not smell vinegar either.

My next “sticky note” – how to clean the front loading machine.
